Whether you are planning to build a small cottage, a mansion, a commercial building, a hospital, or a shopping mall, you are going to need to excavate. The amount of excavation required will depend on the size of the property as well as the building you plan to construct. But whatever your project, you will benefit from a company that offers quick, clean, competitive excavation rates for whatever needs to be dug out of the ground and removed.

We take care of all the paperwork and legalities from the initial site inspection to the final grading of the property. All our contractors are qualified and correctly licensed and are covered by Alberta’s Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB), and we work strictly in accordance with the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Safety Code. The requirements of this legislation are extensive and absolutely essential for all excavation services.

One of the main risks of excavation are cave-ins, so it is important for you to use a company you can trust to avoid these. We are careful to choose a trenching method that meets the requirements of the job and we do regular inspections to make sure the trenches remain reliable and totally sound.

Excavation Services Offered

While excavation is often carried out on virgin land that has never been built on, excavation services are also frequently required after demolition work has been completed.

When the land has never been built on, excavations often involve removal of vegetation including bushes and trees, rocks, and unwanted soil. In some instances, for example, on sloping ground, some land might need to be filled in with rubble and/or soil to level it. Then foundations and trenches (including those for plumbing and drainage) have to be dug. Once complete, the foundation and other trenches will have to be backfilled.

Preparation for sites that were previously built on also involves digging and backfilling, always in accordance with the plans for the building that is to be constructed. We have the best excavation equipment available to ensure that your project will be a success from the ground up!

Typically, excavation services offered include:

  • Lot grading
  • Digging
  • Backfilling
  • Trenching
  • Quick-trench
  • Removal and disposal of materials excavated

Whether working on residential, commercial, or industrial projects, most of our customers require us to fulfill all services relating to excavation. That means digging, backfilling, and trenching… and fulfilling quick-trench needs when required.

Other Excavating Services

Pre-Excavation services

We dig! But before we even start digging we do inspections and haul gravel if it’s required. If you need to create in-fills, we do that too, as well as pre-backfill to accommodate inspection of all the various services – plumbing, underground electrical systems, and footings and foundation.

Digging

However deep you need us to dig, we will get it done for you. We will dig your foundation trenches, the trenches for your plumbing and possibly gas pipes, and we will also dig out as much dirt you need to remove for a new basement.

Backfilling

Basic excavations don’t necessarily need to be back-filled (they might just need to be levelled), but when you are building, the most important excavations that involve foundations and trenches all need to be both back-filled with excavated material and then compacted.

Backfilling is also an important part of slab preparation for construction, and it is vital for landscaping preparation, particularly when it is going to be done on a large scale.

Trenching and Quick-Trench

All properties require trenches, whether for foundations or to expedite the installation of utilities and ensure that they can be properly maintained.

The Government of Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety Code defines a trench as “a long narrow dug out area of ground that is deeper than its width at the bottom.” While a trench must be excavated, an excavation is not necessarily a trench. Furthermore, while not all excavations need to be supported, there are strict regulations for shoring and timbering that must be used for certain excavations and most trenches. For this reason, it is essential you use an Alberta-based company that is able to fulfill all the legal requirements and specifications.

Quick-trench contractors are used specifically for plumbing, stormwater, and sewer systems, as well as gas supply, and servicing permits and required inspections will be required.

We will obtain the right permits, and we have all the best equipment available to complete both quick-trench and trenching services quickly, correctly, and efficiently. You can rely on us to do the job the right way the first time.asset to your organization.
